Cultual Mask
The cultural mask project gave students a chance to explore the choices made by different culture through the creation of a mask of their own. To start this project we had a discussion about how culture impacts the choices made in artwork. After this students were given a list of 12 different cultures where masks played a significant role in the culture. Students chose three of these cultures to research and chose their favorite to move forward with the project. Masks were constructed using Plaster strips placed over a mask form. Cardboard was used to add extra details like horns, fangs, and any other prominent facial features. Once dried the masks were painted.
